Biography

Older daughter of Benjamin Larrabee (aka Letherby or Letherbay), and Mary Elithorpe, Hannah was born in December 1735 in what was then part of the British province of Massachusetts Bay, part of New England.^[1] Later (1820) this area became the state of Maine. Her younger sister, Elizabeth, b. 1737, went by the name Letherby or Letherbay but Hannah usually used Larrabee as her maiden name. The two sisters married two sea-captain brothers of the Isaac Snow family from Truro, Cape Cod, Massachusetts: Captain John Snow married Hannah in 1754 and Captain Isaac Snow married Elizabeth in 1757. This has generated some confusion among later genealogists. As Hannah commonly used Larrabee, it is preferred for this site. All merges should be into Larrabee-1171.

Hannah (Larrabee) Snow died in the Snow home at Great Island, Harpswell, Cumberland County, Maine District, Massachusetts, USA, on April 7, 1818.^[4] Her husband, Captain John Snow, predeceased her, dying between 1779, when his last son was born, and 1790, when he was not on the 1st US Census.

Note: Hannah (Larrabee) Snow's husband, Captain John Snow (1734-aft.1779), died between 1779 and the 1st US Census of 1790. She did not remarry. It was his nephew, Capt. John Snow (1762-1827), who was on the 1790 Census and who died on 4 September 1827, on Great Island, Harpswell, Cumberland County, Maine, USA. The families were neighbors; both men were Maine Sea Captains on the Atlantic Ocean.
