She talked about seeing Indians looking in the windows at night as a little girl (Sybil Moe) and was very frightened.
Olga lived in Bloomer across from a small grocery store near the bridge on Hwy 40 after Lauritz died and the farm was sold. She later moved to a small house on 623 Chauncey St. in Eau Claire near where Esther and Dale Lampman lived on Altoona Avenue for many years. She later moved into a assisted living apartment house on State Street. For many years Olga would get onto the bus to go shop at the London Square Mall. She was a terrific seamstress, and was known to still be making dresses, alterations and an occasional wedding dress well into her late 80's. She lived the remainder of her days at a nursing home in Dallas, WI after having many minor strokes. I remember Olga as always having some candy around, and giving us too much when mom and dad were not looking. She was hefty gal, strict but yet tender. I used to shovel her sidewalks & mow her lawn on Chauncey Street for her, and a piece of pie & glass of milk was always waiting for me. She was the only grandmother I can say I really knew.
The old farm house she grew up in (John Larsons) and lived in till Lauritz died I remember very well. Family picnics on the front porch or front yard. Dale, Lyman, Franky, Johnny and others would have jello eating fights after dinner. Lyman would always win, that man could eat jello. The farm house had a square metal grate in the floor for heating, and after us kids were playing in the snow, got cold, we would stand over that grate and get warm very fast. It was great. There were little chairs (mom has one yet) that we sat on, or small wooden stools just our size. It was a big warm house, and we stayed overnight sometimes. Olga would make sure we had enought to eat and we would sleep in those big beds upstairs.
