Biography

Mary was born in 1823 in Kenton. Suffolk England. She passed away 25 Mar 1875.

John Bannister was born on 4 Feb 1814 in Kenton. Suffolk England. He was 23 years of age when he arrived with his mother (Mary Inglish) in Canada in 1836.

He was married to Mary LAST or Larst in 1842 in Stoney Creek Ontario. They were married 6 years after John arrived at the homestead at Stoney Creek.

Mary lived on a neighboring farm. In 1852 John and Mary struck out on their own, moving west to the 14th concession of Plympton, Plympton Township, near Lake Huron. They settled on a 200 acre farm just west of what is now the town of Forest. The trip from Warwick village was hazardous because of the presence of bears, wild cats, wolves in the bush, etc. No roads were present at that time and John had to hack through shrubs to cut a path for the wagon.

They were one of the earliest homesteaders in that area and are officially considered amongst the pioneers of Western Ontario. John cleared the land of the virgin forest, building a substantial log house for his family. The farm was advantageously located with a large creek, Bear Creek, winding through it giving excellent drainage. John became a prosperous farmer and the old log house gave way to a large fine frame house
