  • JULIUS T. LATHROP- May 12,1909 (p. 75) Julius T. Lathrop, who had been in poor health for some time, died at his home in Roseville May 12, 1909, at the age of ninety-one years. He had been a resident of Warren county for over sixty years, we understand, living at first on a farm in Greenbush township, then near Berwick, and finally at Roseville. He was born in Livingston county's N.Y., in 1818, then lived for a while in Ohio, and later in Kane county, ILL. He came to Greenbush on foot, with the exception of rides which he was able to pick up on the way. In 1842 he had married Miss Elmira Light at Ashtabula, Ohio. After he bought his farm near Greenbush he went to Kane county and hired a yoke of oxen to haul his household goods to his new home. As he had only a small wagon, a man whom he met going into Chicago offered to bring Mrs. Lathrop to Monmouth on his way back. She was taken sick on the trip, and was left at the home of a farmer on the way. The driver forgot the name of the farmer, and Mr. Lathrop started back on a hunt for her. He happened to meet the farmer who was bringing her to her home, while she was so sick that she had to lie on a bed in the wagon. She came through safely however, and to them were born two children, and she herself passed away in 1874. Mr. Lathrop then married Mrs. Zelinda Byarlay of Roseville, who survives him. No Children were born to this union. Mr. Lathrop had been a member of the Christian church since his early days, and his funeral was held in the Christian church at Roseville, and conducted by Rev. Mr. Osgood, with burial in the Roseville cemetery."
