Biography

Samuel 4th, son of Samuel Lothrop and Deborah Crow, was born on 1 Jan 1720/21 at Norwich, New London County, CT,[1][2] and died on 20 Aug 1754 at New Concord Society, CT.[1]

He married Elizabeth BISHOP, daughter of Samuel BISHOP and Sarah FOBES, on 10 Feb 1742/43 at Norwich, New London County, CT; children (surname LATHROP):[1][3]

  1. Rev. Samuel - b. 30 Nov 1743, d. 14 Jun 1801; m1. Lois LATHROP (his 3rd cousin); m2. Sarah OAKMAN
  2. Thomas - b. 13 May 1745, d. 20 Mar 1826; m. Wealthy Ann COBB
  3. Simeon - b. 11 Feb 1746/47, d. 30 Dec 1826; m. Esther BRANCH
  4. John - b. 25 May 1749
  5. Susanna - b. 21 Oct 1751
  6. Elizabeth - b. 19 Jan 1754
  7. Zachariah - b. 19 Jan 1754, d. 15 Apr 1758

Samuel's will dated 30 Jan 1750/51 at New Concord Society, CT, made bequests to his wife Elizabeth, son Elisha (not mentioned in the 1765 estate distribution), and son Samuel. In addition, no birth was found for Elisha, and the birth dates of the other children leave no real space for him.[1] His will was proved on 8 Mar 1765 at New Concord Society, CT, and the distribution of his estate named Elizabeth wife of William Witter, eldest son Samuel, son Thomas, son Simeon, son John, daughter Susannah, and daughter Elizabeth.[1]

In Dec 1752, Samuel and Elizabeth became church members at Lisbon, New London County, CT.[4] He was administrator of Joseph WALTON's estate at Norwich, New London County, CT, before 17 Apr 1754.[5] The will of his father Samuel LOTHROP dated 30 Oct 1754 mentioned the heirs of his son Samuel deceased.[1]

His inventory was completed on 21 November 1754 in Norwich. It included an unnamed enslaved black girl.[6]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Samuel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Samuel:
