Hi Andre

My ancestors were one of the 50 slave families that Gustav Zahn gave occupational rights to reside at Steinthal, Tulbagh. In my research, i discovered the "Doop and Lidmaat Register 1817 - 1889 for the Tulbagh Zending Genootschap under Arie Vos and Gustav Zahn on Familysearch.org but it is not indexed - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6LR9-BHC?wc=M646-868%3A13850901%2C13850902%2C29796701%2C29796702&cc=1392488. All the births of the Zahn family are captured.

Hi Andre,

I'm working on a website for Riebeek Valley Heritage (rvheritage.co.za) and I'm looking for more info about the Laubschers during their time in the valley.

I'm researching Nicolaas Laubscher in particular https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Lopser-1#_ref-MELT_0

Do you know which land and farms he owned in the valley, and what he was up to? Who inherited his estate? Was it Sophia Basson?

Thanks!

Good day Andre..how do I go about to obtain a badge to become a member..my interests are Woest familymembers of Gert Heinrich Woest. He was born in Ösnabruck Germany and came to SA as an immigrant. I am at a dead-end regarding his parents, grand parents and great grandparents in Germany. I have tried to search records in Germany but didn't find anything. Would appreciate any help or guidance where to search for such old records. Kind regards. Terecia

Hi Terecia

I can certainly allocate you a badge (I assume you're referring to the COGH Project), but before I do I want to make sure you've had a good read through the project guidelines and understand what we require from profiles belonging to the COGH project. You're obviously new to WikiTree and by the looks of it have not yet worked on any profiles - please have a look at some of the profiles from your family line to see what other people have done.

As for guidance on old German records, I don't have much experience outside of FamilySearch I'm afraid (I know more about Dutch records). Might be worth asking on the G2G forum.

Let me know when you're ready for the badge.

Hi Andre,

I am fairly new to WikiTree. I only joined last year and have not done much on it. I came across the COGH Stamouer-Progenitor Project, and your name as the profile manager and the family tree of August Wilhelm Friedrich Ancelius Ferdinand Gnade quite by accident. It is quite impressive.

My interest in it is that my maternal great grandmother was a Genade. I have very little on her, and nothing about her ancestors.

I have a few questions to ask you if you don't mind.

1. Would it be correct to say that all Genades in South Africa are descended from August's young son Johan Christoffel (Gnade) Genade rather than his first son Johan Hendrik Gnade, because of the change in the spelling. 2. Or is it known if there were other Genades that came to South Africa in the years after August, so that some of the Genades are descended from them.

I did a search for the number of people with the surname Genade, and there are about 740 in South Africa, and only about 24 in other parts of the world. I am, not sure how up-to-date or accurate this is. This seems to point to the fact that all Genades are descended from the young son. There are also a number of other variations of the surname.

3. Do you know of a website or group, who may be involved in the Genade Family Tree, or is this the most complete family tree about.

Thanks.

Regards, Chris Pryde.

posted by Chris Pryde
Hi Chris

I'm afraid I'm going to disappoint you. I have no real knowledge of the Genade family origins - my name is probably appearing on a number of Genade profiles due to the fact that there are some marriage(s) between Laubscher & Genade and the fact that I do spend a lot of time going through Swartland baptism & marriage registers.

I'm afraid I can't really add more than that.

Regards, Andre

Hi André,

Thanks a lot for solving the errors and suggestions on the profile of Jeanne. Do you know that you can find all your suggestions and errors if you click on ‘my wikitree’ and at the bottom you’ll find ‘suggestions’ again and there you will find all the suggestions and errors that you have on all your own profiles. In this way you can keep your profiles clean and lower the total amount of suggestions and errors.

Kind regards,

Hi Andre,

I have started looking at the South Africa Project. I live near Perth in Western Australia, I am curious where you migrated to, Cheers, Steve Thomas.

Hi Steve, I migrated to Adelaide in 1982.

Thanks. My South Australian family has significant ancestry from the early Lutherans that emigrated from Prussia. In Wikitree, I am a Project Coordinator for the Germany Project.

Regarding South Africa, I worked for 3 months near Johannesburg before you migrated. My brother still lives north of Adelaide and last year supported a farmer and his family to come to South Australia from near Mossel Bay, Western Cape Province.

Hi André, I will make sure I reed the rules, I have already been looking at some names that match my research and have been able to add new details and family members. I have family connections to the Netherlands and many links to VOC. My first family link was Thomas Le Breton who settled in Cape Town after his military service (88 Long Street was his last address and his profession was brewer). Another name of interest is Matthew Adams, he arrived in 1820 and was a clock maker (he installed the clock in the original St George church in Cape Town). Other names of interest: Botha, Venter, Van Der Ploy to name a few.

Good Day Andre, I wish to join the Dutch Cape Colony project. I moved to Langebaan, Western Cape from the UK and have been building my family tree for quite a few years and have now found several connections the the Early Dutch and English settlers to the Cape.

Hello Jan. We would be very happy for you to join the project. I do however ask that you read through the project web page first and take particular note of the requirements listed under "Important for Cape of Good Hope profiles". Please also note that a large proportion of profiles for the period (1652 - 1806) already exist, so please do a thorough search before adding new profiles (we have a constant battle with merging duplicates). Also, do you have any family lines of special interest that I can note against your name ?

As research coordinator he takes care that the profiles in the Dutch Cape Colony project and the adjacent Progenitor project are well integrated and sourced. I trust him completely - he works diligently, neatly and above all - accurately. You are an asset André; many thanks for your quiet and unassuming role within this project and on WikiTree!" - not assuming. Apologies for the mistake.

Thank you very much for your input and help regarding  Kotze-313

I will look into this. hopefully today :-P  Warm regards R

Hi Johannes, please do not change the data of others in the biographies. This is tampering with information. For example here, on Loúbser-246 you removed : Place: [Cape Town] <ref name=ESME/> and added instead place: Cape Town, Cape of Good Hope <ref name=ESME/><ref name=BAP/> Which is untrue. The square bracketts indicate that Cape Town was called some thing different then. By removing it you are falsifying history (I know - not on purpose). And then you add the current day repository of the actual baptism as the place of baptism. Which might not have been Cape Town at all but for example Stellenbosch. Please just add information. Do as little editing and removal as possible. Always first go the the link provided and see what is there.

You'll have to re-add the marriage info. Thanks for that.

Sien hierdie afbeelding.
