Biography

George Laurenson was born 29 Aug 1840 in Dunrossness, Shetland, Scotland to David Laurenson and Catherine Smith.^[1]

In 1841 George Laurnson (age 0) lived at Maywick in Dunrossness with his father David (35, Fisherman), mother Cathren (25), and three sisters: Osslea (6), Agnes (4), and Catharine (3), as well as servant Laurance Galdie (14, M S [Male Servant]).^[2]

In 1851 George Laurenson (age 11, Scholar) lived at Longal in Zetland, Orkney with his father David (48, Farmer 2 Merks & Fisher), mother Catherine (40, Far Wife), and seven siblings: Ursela (17, Far Daur), Agnus (15, Far Daur), Christina (13, Far Daur), James (9, Scholar), David (7, Scholar at Home), Catherine (3), and Elspit (1).^[3]

In 1861 Gorge Laurenceson (age 19, Fisherman) lived in Sandwick & Conningsburgh, Shetland with three of his siblings: Ossla (25, Ag Lab), David (15, Fisherman), and Cathern (13, Ag Lab).^[4]

In 1881 George Laurenson (age 40, Fisherman) lived in Sandwich & Cunningsburg, Shetland with his wife Mary (48, Fisherman Wife) and three children: Mary (11, Fisherman Daur), Devina (9, Fisherman Daur), and James N (6, Fisherman Son), as well as his mother Ratern [Catherine] (70).^[7]

In 1891 George Laurenson (age 50, Fisherman) lived in Sanwick & Cunningsburgh with his wife Mary (59, Fisherman Wife), son James N (16, Fisherman), and daughter Davania (19, Knitter).^[8]

George Laurenson passed away on 8 Feb 1917 in Longhill, Sandwick, Shetland.
