Consider Law was born in New Lebanon, N. Y., in 1756. (This date is from DAR Records and is incorrect. He was actually born in 1760 and also in Connecticut and not New York.)
His personal appearance commanded general admiration. He was five feet nine inches in height, well proportioned, with clear complexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes, an aquiline nose, and Washingtonian mouth and chin. He had a clear and melodious voice which was heard with pleasure in the Sabbath services. In the various social circles in which he mingled he would often be heard relating some pleasing incident, or singing some song for the amusement of the company.
He was a soldier and an officer in the Revolutionary War. He fought at Bunker Hill and in various other engagements.
He married his first wife, whose maiden name was Martha Allen, about the year 1782; she lived but a short time after the birth of her only child, whose name was also Martha.
He was subsequently married to Miss Sarah Grommon, about the year 1786, who survived him about twenty years, dying March 2nd, 1840, at the residence of her son, George W. Law.
By her he had two sons, Consider, Jr., and George W., and five daughters: Sarah (Sally), Irena, Maria, and the twins, Caroline and Adaline.
Canaan, Columbia, New York, United States Census, 1790[1]
He was one of the early settlers in the old town of Paris, Oneida County, N. Y. He lived in the town of Paris about eleven or twelve years, having emigrated there about the year 1789 or 1790. [2] In the year 1801 or 1802 he moved to Adams, Jefferson County, N.Y. and then moved from there to the town of Kirkland, Oneida county, N. Y. There he remained until the year 1816, when he, with his family, moved to the north part of the town of Westmoreland, in the same county.
Here he and four of his children, Consider, Jr., George, Sally and Maria, on June 20, 1818, helped form the “Second Baptist Church of Christ in Westmoreland,” which was later known as the South Baptist Church, and still later as Bartlett Baptist Church.
This was his last abiding place on earth and on August 4th, 1820, he went to his heavenly home. The earthly remains rest in the burying ground of the above named church. [3][4]
