Biography

Samuel was born around 1826 in the Village of Shadoxhurst on the remnant forest the Kent Weald, near the Town of Ashford between the Greensand Ridge and Romney Marsh, in Kent, England. His parents were Labourer, Reuben (Law) and Charlotte (Millen), who married on the 18 November 1818 in the Parish Church of St. Margaret's, in the Village of Bethersden, Bethersden Parish, Borough of Ashford, 5 miles (8 km) west of the town of Ashford, in Kent, England[1].

Marriage

Samuel (Law) marries Jane (Rayner) on the 10 June 1849 at the Parish Church of St Peter & St Paul, in the Village of Bilsington, in the Ashford District, about 5 miles (8 km) south of the Town of Ashford, in Kent, England[2][3].

Samuel first appears with the 1841 Census residing with Farmer, Martha (Potter) and her son John (Potter) at Frith Gate, in the Village of Mersham, just east of the Town of Ashford, Ashford District, Kent, England. Also living there are Female Servant, Maria (Higgins) and Agricultural Labourers, Thomas (Luckhurst) and Joseph (Beckman)[4]. In the Census of 1851, Samuel has now married Jane (Rayner) and they live with their infant son, Edward Samuel at Court Lodge, in the Village of Bilsington, in the Ashford District, about 5 miles (8 km) south of the Town of Ashford, in Kent, England[5].

With the arrival of the 1861 Census Samuel and Jane are now at the Cottage, Rowland Street, in the Village of Bilsington, near the Town of Ashford, East Ashford District, Kent, England. They live there with their children Edward Samuel, Thomas James, Elizabeth Jane, Martha Charlotte, Fanny Laura and Kesia Ann (Law)[6]. They are now at Pear Tree Farm, with the Census of 1871, in the Village of Bilsington, Kent with their children Thomas James, Martha Charlotte, Kesia Ann, William Henry, Sarah Millen and Reuben Frank (Law)[7].

The 1881 Census, has Samuel and Jane living with their sons William Henry and Reuben Frank (Law) at Rose Cottage, Marsh Road, in the Village of Bilsington, Kent[8]. Samuel and Jane are now living on their own with the Census of 1891 at Pear Tree Place, Village of Bilsington, Kent[9]. And they are still at Pear Tree Place with the 1901 Census[10].

Occupation

His occupation is 1841 is that of an Agricultural Labourer and in 1851, a Farm Servant. With the arrival of the 1871 Census, Samuel is now a Farm Bailiff. However, by the time of the 1881 Census, he is a Shepherd and by 1891, a Farmer.

Death/Burial

Samuel (Law) passes away around 17 July 1905 in Willington, Town of Maidstone, East Ashford District, Kent, England. He was 79 years old at the time of his death[11]. He is interred on the 20 July 1905 at the Parish Churchyard of of St Peter & St Paul, in the Village of Bilsington, in the Ashford District, about 5 miles (8 km) south of the Town of Ashford, in Kent, England[12][13].
