Hugh McDowell Lawhon was born 29 November 1804, in Johnston County, North Carolina. He was one of four brothers born to West Lawhon and Frances McDowell. His siblings are John Creed Lawhon, William Lawhon, and David Ervin Lawhon.
He married Ann Young Lawhon about 1825 in Mexico Texas. Their children are:[1]

Hugh passed away 5 February 1876, in Elgin, Bastrop County, Texas, and is buried in Youngs Prairie Cemetery in Elgin, alongside his wife, Ann Young, in Section D Row 2.
