Walter was born in 1830. He was the son of Joseph Lawrence and Polly Lampher. The Lanphers lived near the Lawrence family on the Penobscot River on the road from Bucksport to Orrington. Walter was b. circa 14 Sep 1829 at Orland, Hancock, Maine; m. Ann C. Perkins, daughter of Chesley Perkins and Catherine Lanpher, before 1880; d. 14 Mar 1898 at Bucksport, Hancock, Maine; he was buried at Silver Lake Cemetery, Bucksport, Hancock, Maine. His death certificate indicates that he was a farmer and passed away in 1898 at Orland, Maine. Earlier census records and his Naval enlistment indicate that he was a mariner. Walter was buried at Siver Lake Cemetery in Bucksport, Maine. Wife Ann died in 1907.
Brother Joseph served in the Calvary in the Civil War, Robert served in the 14th Maine Infantry and Walter was in the Navy on the Ship Sabine in 1864 and 1865.
