Jean (Lawrence) Schafferius was born on 5 Sep 1925 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. She was the daughter of Albert Thomas Lawrence and Lilly May (Primus) Lawrance. [1]

She married Elmor Herman Schafferius on 21 Feb 1942 in Queensland, Australia. [2]

Jean's husband's sister Ritta Schafferius was mentally retarded. She lived at home until her mother’s death, then lived with her sister Linda Schafferius for a while but things didn’t work out. She then moved in with her brother Pat (Elmor) Schafferius and sister-in-law Jean Schafferius. Ritta lived with Pat and Jean for about 30 years. She died in 1991 and was cremated. Her ashes are with Jean in Brisbane. [3]

Wedding

Schafferius - Lawrance A pretty wedding was celebrated In the Rosevale Methodist Church on Saturday. February 21. The parties being Miss Jean Gwenneth Lawrance, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Lawrance, Rosevale, and Pte. Elmer Hermann Schafferlus, 105th Motor Transport Coy., fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. J., W. Schafferius, Plainland. Rev. W. J. Tomlinson, Harrsville, performed the ceremony. The bride entered the church supported by her father, who gave her away. Mr. Kevin Thomas presided at the organ and played "The Wedding Chorus" as the bride walked up the aisle. The congregation sang "The Voice That Breathed O'er Eden." and at the signing of the register the organist played, "I Love You Truly." and as the couple left the pulpit "The Wedding March."

The bride wore a street length frock of Swiss voIle over taffeta. The bodice was tucked and Inlet with gulpure Insertion and hand-embroidered sprays, with a graceful swing shirt. She wore a white sisal sailor hat with a fluted brim, trimmed with veling, blue flowers. and white accessories to match. For "something old" she wore a 102-year-old brooch, and carried a beautiful bouquet of white roses, snapdragons, dahlias, and asparagus fern, tied with white satin streamers. Miss Una Jensen, cousin of the bride, who attended as bridesmaid chose a Wedgwood blue satin back crepe frock, high neckline embroidered bodice and sleeves, with a swing skirt. She wore a white-forward Breton hat of Swiss rapel trimmed with blue flowers, and white shoes and gloves. She carried a bouquet of dahlias and asparagus fern tied with blue satin streamers.

Mr. E. G. Zahnow was best man. After the ceremony an adjournment was made to the home of the bride's parents, where the wedding breakfast was served. Mrs. A. T. Lawrance (mother of the bride) received her guests wearing a frock of navy blue matelease, a white straw hat and white shoes. She carried a bouquet of red roses and asparagus fern, tied with satin streamers. The church decoration was tastefully arranged with blue, pink and white streamers, from which were suspended two beautiful big white horse shoes, tied with blue and white streamers, under which the bridal couple stood during the ceremony. The decorations were the work of Misses Una Jensen and Mavis Madsen, cousins of the bride. Rev. W. J. Tomlinson presided at the breakfast and the customary toasts were honoured. The breakfast tables were beautifully decorated with many large vases of roses, gerberas, dahlias, spider lilies, and ferns. On the bride's table was an attractively decorated wedding cake. made and Iced by Mrs. H. P. Jensen. After the breakfast the young couple and bridal party were motored to Ipswich by Mr. Tomlinson to be photographed.

The honeymoon was spent at Ipswich, Bundamba, and Dinmore. A congratulatory telegram was receIved from Mr. and Mrs. W. Adsett. Rockhampton. All the bouquets were the handiwork of Miss W. Jensen. [6]
