Arthur John Lawrence was born around 1848 in Brinsley, Nottinghamshire. [1]
He married Lydia Beardsall at St Stephen's Church, Sneinton, Nottinghamshire on 27th December 1875. [2]
In the 1881 census the family is living in Sutton in Ashfield. Arthur is working as a coal miner and has two children, George A, aged 4 and William Ernest aged 2. [3]
In the 1891 census Arthur was aged 43, and was the head of the household, living with his wife Lydia, and four children, William E, Emily N, David H and Lettuce A Lawrence. He was working as a coal miner. [4]
In the 1901 census Arthur was aged 53 and was the head of household, living with his wife Lydia, children Emily, David and Lettuce and his grandson William E Lawrence. He was working as a coal miner stallman. [5]
By the 1911 census Arthur has been widowed and he and his daughter Lettuce Ada Lawrence are living as boarders in the home of Samuel Taylor King, his wife Emily Una King (nee Lawrence) and daughter Margaret Emily King in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire. Emily is Arthur's older daughter. [6]
If he was 43 in 1891, 53 in 1901, birth date in original profile is incorrect. Will research a birth around 1848. There is an Arthur Lawrence birth registered in Basford in 1846 LAWRENCE, ARTHUR PARSONS GRO Reference: 1846 S Quarter in BASFORD Volume 15 Page 453
I found an Arthur Laurence baptised at St Marys Church, Greasley, Notts on 18 Jan 1847. Parents are John and Louisa Laurence, resident Brinsley, Notts. He does have Brinsley as a birthplace on one of the censuses. (Nottinghamshire Baptisms Index 1538-1917) BINGO! Arthur Lawrence married Louisa Antoinette Parsons 27 feb 1838 at St Peters Church, Radford, Notts. (Nottinghamshire Marriages Index 1528-1929) Cannot confirm that this is THE Arthur Lawrence I am researching.
In 1911 census he is widowed. This census has him listed as John Arthur Lawrence in the transcription, instead of Arthur John Lawrence, which was the original name I inherited on this profile, and Arthur Lawrence which he went by on other censuses. Interesting! I will check the actual census document on find my past. Address may be Bromley House, Queens Square, Eastwood, Notts although the writing is hard to read.
