"Capt John Lawson, born about 1615; Captain in Royal Army; Banished by Cromellians in 1653. As only one of the family is mentioned, it is likely that it was John Lawson, younger son of Capt John who received a land grant in 1756, remained in Virginia and founded the branch from which Alexander James Lawson sprung. This conjecture is supported by the following facts: He was son of Roger, was banished from England and a John Lawson appears at this time in Virginia."
