Biography

Elizabeth is a daughter of Richard Lawson of Hieriggs, who was made Lord Justice-Clerk about 1488. He appears in many Lauder of The Bass charters of this time, usually as a leading witness. This Lawson family are closely related in charters with the Mauchane and Liddell families (Robert Lauder of The Bass's younger brother William was married to Janet Liddell), both of whom had members intermarried with the Lauder of The Bass family about this time.

On 23rd September 1504, Henry Congilton of that Ilk, as sheriff of Haddington, gave sasine to Robert Lawedir of Bass and Elizabeth Lausoun his spouse, of the lands of Wester Spot, Grindanheid, and 'Sunke.'[1] Mr.Richard Lausoun, Justice-Clerk, was the leading witness, with nine others. On 30 Jan 1504/5 Letters of reversion were made by Sir Robert Lawder of the Bass, Knt, and Elizabeth Lawsoun, his spouse. The leading witness was Richard Lawsoun, Justice-Clerk general to the King, and numerous others from East Lothian and including two other Lawsons.

A John Lauder in Haddington witnessed an instrument of resignation dated 27th November 1525 of a tenement of land in favour of Henry Lawson, Rector of Auldcathy in Linlithgowshire, a Lauder of The Bass possession and under their patronage. The Priest was a son of Richard Lawson of Hieriggs. A charter of Robert Lauder of The Bass dated 23rd May 1526 and confirmed at Edinburgh on 3rd September 1529 has as a witness, Henry Lauson, Rector of Auldcathy.

No dates of birth and death are known although it appears she is the same age as her husband. her last child was born about 1514.
