Biography

Emily Lawson was born about 1820 in Shenandoah, Virginia, a daughter of John Lawson and Maria Lewin.

In 1836 Warren County was formed from parts of Frederick and Shenandoah Counties. On April 27, 1837, in Warren county, Emily married William R. Long, aged 49, a widow, born in Warren County, residing in Rockingham County, son of "Ambrose & Tabitha Long" [1] Emily and William Long are found on the United States Census of 1850, living in Pleasant Valley, Rockingham county, Virginia with six children, ages 2 to 13, living in the household. William is 34 and Emily is 30. All the of the children were born in Virginia. Also living in the household is sixty year old Andrew Young. [2]
