Biography

Bessie was born on January 9, 1910 at Capuchin in Scott County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of George Madison and Marry Jo ( Dickson ) Lawson. She married Francis Marion Adkins on April 7, 1928 in Scott County. She passed away on March 24, 1977 in the Scott County Hospital at Oneida in Scott County.

Obituary,

Bessie Lawson Adkins, age 67, of Route 1, Winfield, passed away Thursday morning, March 24th, at the Scott County Hospital following a short illness. She was the daughter of the late George Lawson and the late Mary Jo "Dickeson" Lawson. She was also preceded in death by her husband: Francis M. Adkins, and one daughter: Mildred Jean Linger. Mrs. Adkins had professed Christ as her own personal Savior, and she was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for over 30 years. She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Shirley Meadors of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mrs. Roy Thompson of Oneida; two sons: Phillip Adkins of Dayton, Ohio, and Robert L. Adkins of Winfield; three sisters: Mrs. Carrie Douglas of Benham, Kentucky, Mrs. Berta Cox of Astor, Florida, and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Loomis of Baltimore, Maryland; three brothers: John Henry Lawson of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jim Lawson of Newcomb, Tennessee, and Gorman Lawson of Detroit, Michigan; one granddaughter: Mrs. Bonnie Jean Beckman of Cincinnati, Ohio; two grandsons: Ray Michael Meadors of Marietta, Georgia, and Richard Douglas Linger of Flemingsburg, Kentucky; a special friend; Shawnda Smith; and several other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 26th, at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. J.W. Blevins and Rev. Sherman Smith officiating. Burial was in the Walter Duncan Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Edd Beckman, Kelly Adkins, Kenny Adkins, Paul Adkins, Doug Linger, Johnny Howard Meadors, and Michael Meadors.
