Edward Reuben Lay looked like his father with a short build and black mustach. At an early age, he went to IL or KS with Levi Franklin Landis.

RES: Rented farm on NW edge of Newville Upper Mifflin Tp (to 1905); then rented farm in N Newton Tp near Big Spring (c.1905-10); then owned farm in U Mifflin Tp purchased from J. Burkhart (1910-24). Then owned farm at Westminster, Cumb Co and built auto service station there in 1929 or 1925, which helped establish the linear community of Westminster, named after the Westminster Cemetery there started in 1917. POL: outspoken Democrat. OCC: Farmer, owner Westminster Service Station (Carlisle), founder of community of Westminster.

Valley Times-Star Newville PA R 10 Apr 1941 Obituary (also similar in Sentinel M 7 Apr 1941): Edward R. Lay, 72, for many years superintendent of the Westminster Cemetery Association, died at his home in Westminster, Carlisle R. D. 4, Sunday evening. He was a member of the Christian Science Society. He is survived by two sons, Roland and Kenneth, both of Westminster; one daughter, Mr. William K. Weakley, and seven grand-children. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the J. R. Shulenberger Funeral Home, with burial in Westminster cemetery.
