Died

21 FEB 1835.
New York. [8]
From "Inscriptions from graveyards in the northern part of Columbia County, New York," his tombstone reads:
Reuben Lay, departed this life Feb. 21, 1835 aged 84 years.
The above document also has the statement "(Reuben was a son of Ebenezer Lay)".
From "An American family : Botsford-Marble ancestral lines," p. 55,.
The petition for administration in the estate of Reuben Lay, 7 Mar. 1835, named his widow Elizabeth, and children: Joseph Lay, John S. Lay, Rebuen Lay, Polly Lay, Lucinda Lay, and Betsey widow of Samuel Boughton, all of Chatham, Columbia County, N. Y., Indah widow of Heil King of Vernon, Oneida County, N. Y., Amy widow of David Ferguson of Fishkill, Dutchess County, N. Y., and Sally wife of Nathan Boughton of Troy, Rensselaer County, N. Y.
There are some odd names in this list. "Indah" might be Judith, "Amy" might be Anna, and Sally is Sarah, since on the same page, Sarah Lay (daughter of Rev. Reuben Lay) is identified as the wife of Nathan Boughton, following the death of her first husband, Thomas G. Botsford.
Reuben is buried in Old Chatham Union Cemetery, Old Chathem, Columbia Co., New York.
