Richard was baptised on 18th August 1833 at St Peter and St Paul, Hanborough.[1] He was the son of John Lay and Sarah Eaglestone. His father gave his occupation at the baptism as mason.
Marriage
Richard Lay and Ann Russell were married after banns at St Andrews, Headington, Oxfordshire on 10th June 1867[2]. They were bachelor and spinster, both aged 34 and living in Headington. Richard was a mason and the son of John Lay who was also a mason. Ann was the daughter of Charles Russell who was a labourer. They each signed their own name on the register and the witnesses to the marriage were James White and Eliza White[3].
