Emma was baptised at St Peter and St Paul, Hanborough on 22nd November 1835.[1] She was the daughter of John Lay and Sarah Eaglestone. Her father gave his occupation at the baptism as mason.
Marriage
Alfred Lay and Emma Lay were married after banns at St Thomas, Oxford, Oxfordshire on 3rd October 1869[2]. They were widower and spinster and both aged 31. Alfred was a baker living in Cardigan Street and the son of Thomas Lay who was a brick layer. Emma was living in Walter Crescent and the daughter of John Lay who was a contractor. They each signed their own name on the register and the witnesses to the marriage were William White and Anna White[3].
