Biography

John Laycock was baptized in adulthood on 26 April 1802 in the Sedbergh parish church in England (Yorkshire). At baptism, John gave his parents as John and Rebecca, and his birthdate as 12 February 1779.[1]

On the same date of 26 April 1802, John married Agnes Taylor of Sedbergh. In doing so, he "married out" of the Society of Friends.

John and Agnes had ten children:
- John, born 11 September 1802 in Dowbiggin Foot, Sedbergh.
- Richard, born 14 July 1805 in Sedbergh.
- Mary, born 17 Nov 1807 in Sedbergh.
- James, born 7 Feb 1810 in Sedbergh.
- Margaret, born 23 September 1811 in Sedbergh.
- Hannah, born 1 Feb 1814 in Sedbergh.
- Agnes and Thomas, twins born 8 Dec 1816 in Sedbergh.
- Rebecca, born 20 July 1819 in Sedbergh.[2]
- William, born 30 May 1821 in Low Hollins, Sedbergh.[3][4]
- Ann, born 7 March 1823 in Newton, Lancashire.
