Till did not know the year of his birth. He reported 1893 when he enlisted. [1]The Laycock Family Bible lists the year as 1890 but records the date as 15th March.[2]
He enlisted as a driver in the 12th Battalion, First Australian Infantry Force on 20 August 1914, saw action at Gallipoli and in France. He returned to Australia on 23 September 1918. [3]
Both before and after the War, he worked for the Devonport branch of the River Don Trading Company[4]
He married Lottie Edith Nellie Brown on 8 October 1923 at Launceston. [5]
He was a keen sportsman, playing football [6]and rowing, [7] and was a pigeon fancier [8]
He was also an active member of the Devonport branch of the Returned Servicemen's League, and a member of the AIF Originals Association, where stories of his exploits with his two horses Fish Tins and Dolly were well known. [9]
He passed away in April 1986, and is buried at Mersey Vale Lawn Cemetery, Spreyton, Plot 27, Row F, Location: L7. [10]
