John was confirmed in 1816 in Lauperswyl which was located about 25 miles east of the city of Bern along the Emnme River. In 1840 they left Switzerland and came to America. They were 40 days sailing the ocean to New York and then they traveled by train to Elmore, Ohio and later settled in Webster Township. They purchased 80 acres of unimproved land. Section 32 Town 6 N and Range 12 E for $180. This is located on the south side of Devil's Hole Road extending west from Luckey road. John sold the west 40 acres and resided on the east 40 acres until he died in 1872. They are listed in the December 8, 1850 records of the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church.
