Biography
Elizabeth “Eliza” Layng was the sixth daughter of John Miles and Jane Maria Joint Layng. She was born on Friday, September 9, 1853, in Doonfeeny, County Mayo, Ireland, and christened on Sunday, October 30, 1853, in the Presbyterian church.
In 1864 the ten year old Eliza left Ireland and boarded in steerage the 1,812 ton Chancellor in Liverpool, England, with her eleven year old sister, Margaret, with their parents. On Friday, April 15, 1864, they arrived at the Port of New York.
Elizabeth Layng Elliott and Andrew Elliott had seven children. They were all born in the city of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County:

Ella (Ellie) M. Elliott (January, 1876 - Sunday, January 27, 1946)
Iva E. Elliott (Sunday, June 16, 1878 - Friday, September 1, 1944)
Andrew Miles Elliott (Friday, August 18, 1882 - April 8, 1967)
George B. Elliott (Monday, June 27, 1887 - Wednesday, March 4, 1891)
William John Elliott (Thursday, November 5, 1891 - Thursday, July 12, 1956)
Violet (Viola) M. Elliott (Wednesday, Sept. 27, 1893 - Thursday, April 15, 1948)
Elizabeth passed away on Thursday, January 25, 1906. Cause of death indicated on the Pennsylvania Certificate of Death was fatty degeneration of the heart. Interment was in the Allegheny Cemetery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
