Biography

This John Layton is identified in Stillwell's Genealogical Miscellany as (14), the son of Samuel (6) Layton & Janet Gilchrist Oliphant.

Although John received land conveyed to him by his father in Middletown, Monmouth, New Jersey in 1727, he must have moved to Long Hill, Morris, New Jersey at about the time of his marriage to Ann Runyon. She had a brother, Richard Runyon and sister, Grace Cooper also living in Long Hill, New Jersey. In fact this cemetery was on land that Daniel Cooper & Grace (Runyon) Cooper owned.
