Biography

OLIVIER LE BLANC is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, on Plaque 7-Right, La Bergere. Listed with him is his wife, Marie Lebert, and two children: Pierre and Marie. [1]

Olivier LeBlanc was born in Grand Pré, Acadie in 1747, a son of Victor LeBlanc and Marie Aucoin.[2]

Then, in 1755 came le grand dérangement, when he was about seven years old. His particular story should be researched beyond this sketch, and told here. We know that he was in France by 1781; did he arrive there from England via Virginia? Or was he sent directly there in 1758?

On 26 June 1781, he married Marie Madeleine Lebert at Nantes, France.[3][4]

On 5 August 1785, they immigrated to New Orleans, Louisiana. He was by then thirty-eight years old and a woodworker. He and Marie had two children.[5]

Marie died sometime after the 1785 birth of their third child.

On 7 November 1790, he married Rose Richard in Ascension Parish, Louisiana.[6]

He was probably widowed again by the time he was buried on 25 January 1808 at St. Joseph Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.[7]
