Jacques is noted as bourgeois en Honfleur, which is also where the marriage certificate with Francois de Nollent is found. Bourgeois was a specific merchant class, and those successful members (who had money) were at that time marrying with descendants of ancient nobility (who lacked money but had titles), no doubt ultimately with the hope to elevate their children into the noble class, which some successfully did.

His mother is cited in sources as being named Suzanne de Goulain or Goulaine. Based on his having married a women of ancient nobility, I estimate that his mother was of the anciently noble de Goulaine family. However, there is no recorded "Suzanne" that I have found in that family tree yet.
