Alice Rebecca LeBoeuf was born 14 September 1900 on Southdown Plantation[1] in Houma, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. She was the youngest child of Cyprien Norbert LeBoeuf and Ada Marie Legrand. She was baptized at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Theriot, Louisiana.[2]
Alice married Clement Joseph Cantrelle on 29 May 1916 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Houma, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana.[3]
Alice and Clay had 4 children during their marriage. On 7 May 1925, Alice took 8-year-old Bea, and her 5-year-old son fishing for crabs in Dulac, Louisiana. Screams from Bea attracted her attention and she saw her son in the water. Alice jump in and was able to save her boy, but got into trouble in the water. Exhausted from the struggle, Alice lost her life that day in front of her precious children.[5][6] Although her stone is no longer there, Alice is buried in Saint Francis de Sales Cemetery #1, Houma, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, according to her son. [7][8]
