Biography

Marriage certificate names her parents as Hiram Leach and Hannah Hopkins.

The date of death is unknown. Clara and her husband were last present in the census records of 1930. Census records indicate they owned their property at Gross point in Orland (where the original Orland settlers came from Truro, Massachusetts--brothers Ebenezer and Joseph Gross), so they may have been buried on their property, which was commonly done in Maine. They are not buried with either of their two children. Her sister Effie Leach Power is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery at Leach's point with their parents and grandparents, Barzillai Hopkins and Hannah Kimball. Clara's mother Hannah Hopkins Leach, lived with Clara and husband Charles Anson Lanpher in 1900; perhaps Charles and Clara are also buried In Maple Grove Cemetery, but their monuments may have been broken and buried by years of ice erosion.

Children were:

  • George Edward Lanpher
  • Myrtle E. Lanpher. Myrtle never married. She died at Eastport, Maine, and is the only Lanpher in that cemetery.
