Bill attended Thornbury Junior School, then Lapage Street Secondary Modern School. In 1961 he started as an Apprentice fitter at The English Electric Co in Bradford. During his apprenticeship, Bill attended Bradford Technical College. As a result of this education he was promoted to the Drawing Office as a Design Draughtsman. Later transferring to the Aircraft Equipment Division as a Development Engineer on Aircraft Engine Starting Systems, subsequently working on the Gas turbine starter system for the AV8B Harrier Aircraft. After his marriage to Pauline Shaw in 1975, the family moved to live in Shipley, close to his work. In 1979 Bill switched jobs to become a Manufacturing Engineer at Marston Radiators in Shipley where he gained experience in the manufacture of high speed welded thin wall aluminium tubing, a field in which he worked until his retirement in 2019. Bill moved, with his family to the USA in 1994 to work for Harrison Radiators, a subsidiary of General Motors. Since 1994 Bill has travelled the world to set up, teach and troubleshoot high frequency welded aluminium tube mills.
