Robert was born in Ohio. He was an WWII Army Veteran, having served in Italy and other locations. He was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star He moved to Colorado in the 1960s where he was a miner, writer and raconteur. He was known as Mountain Bob. In 1993/94 Mountain Bob spent 211 days underground in a mine attempting to break a Guiness World Record. Robert was well known in the Colorado area for his story telling and knowledge of the mountains.
