Immigration to America

Gottfried married in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany in Jan 1736/37 (Julian calendar), and had children in the Palatinate as late as 1741; but Gottfried had children in America from 1747 on, so he must have come over with his wife and perhaps his children between 1741 and 1747.

Research Notes

Parents

Some family tree sources indicate that Gottfried's father was a Hans Theobald (or Dewalt) Ledermann, who came over to America with the rest of his family on the James Goodwill in 1727 to Pennsylvania. However, Gottfried did not accompany them; in fact, he did not came to America until after 1741. He also took a wife while still in Germany during this time. Although sometimes family members will stay behind for a time in the "old country" to tie up various estate matters, it does not seem reasonable that he: 1) Would have taken nine years to do so; and 2) Meanwhile take a wife and have several children before emigrating. His birth record also shows his father as Johannes, not Hans, Ledermann. For these reasons, I'm skeptical that Gottfried was a son of Hans Theobald Ledermann. (Bechman-4 14:33, 6 January 2017 (EST))

Death / Burial

FindAGrave.com, Gottfried Leatherman (Memorial #74754302), showing Gottfried dying in 1800 in Wolfsville, Maryland, was unlinked from this Wikitree profile, as the FindAGrave memorial page actually refers to Gottfried Leatherman, Jr. So we don't currently have a source of when and where Gottfried Sr. has died. DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Godfrey by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Godfrey:
