Biography

Archibald 'Arch' Leavitt was born at Turner, Maine in 1804, the son of Isaiah Leavitt and Lydia Ludden.

He married Polly Deane on 17 May 1829 at Turner. They were the parents of seven known children:

  1. Clarinda Leavitt b. 21 Dec 1829 at Turner, d. 1 Sep 1910 at Auburn, Maine
  2. Julia Ann Leavitt b. 1 Aug 1832 at Turner, d. 19 May 1913 at Auburn
  3. Lorette Leavitt b. 19 Feb 1834 at Turner, d. 21 Sep 1916 at Auburn
  4. Aubrey Leavitt b. 11 May 1837, d. 26 Jul 1838
  5. Aubrey Leavitt b. 2 Dec 1839 at Turner, d. 29 Apr 1910 at Turner
  6. Arch Dorillus Leavitt b. 15 Jun 1840 at Turner, d. 30 May 1864 at Washington, D.C.
  7. Rackley D Leavitt b. 7 Nov 1842 at Turner, d. 7 Aug 1910 at Boston, Massachusetts

The 1850 US census for Turner, Maine lists residents Arch Leavitt (49), a farmer, Polly Leavitt (48), Clarinda Leavitt (20), Julia A Leavitt (17), Lorette Leavitt (16) Auberry [sic] Leavitt (11), Dorillus Leavitt (9), Rackly [sic] D Leavitt (7), Lydia Leavitt (70) and Lindley Dean (male) (18), a farmer. All were born in Maine. Julia, Lorette, Aubrey, Dorillus and Rackley all attended school within the past year. Arch owns real estate valued at $2350.

The 1860 US census for Turner, Maine lists residents Arch Leavitt (56), a farmer, Polly Leavitt (57), Lovett [sic] Leavitt (26), a schoolteacher, Aubery [sic] Leavitt (21), a farm laborer, Arch D Leavitt (19), a college student, Rackley D Leavitt (17), a farm laborer, and Lydia Leavitt (81). Arch owns real estate valued at $4850 and has a personal estate valued at $ 1257.

Arch died in 1866 and is buried at the East Burial Grounds, North Turner, Maine.
