Biography
Martin was born about 1825 in the Russian Empire in what is now Poland.[1][2] He married Caroline Klatt in about 1847, with whom he had eight children: Karoline, Karl, Andras, Jacob, Wilhelm, Gottleib, Elizabeth and Maryanna.[1] He passed away in 1889 of cancer in Ewin, Volhynia (today Гевин, Volyn Oblast, Ukraine) in the Russian Empire at the age of 64.[1][2]
A story of the birth of Martin and his brother Johann, and the move of their parents from Alsace-Lorraine to Poland is now a WikiTree Thing.
Is it possible that Martin's first name was Karl? None of his children or grandchildren named their sons Martin, which is highly unusual. There are plenty of Karls, including Martin's first born son. Please help solve this mystery and continue to help improve Martin's profile.
