Biography

Some researchers disagree that John is the son of William, and believe that he is of some other relation. I find no proof of this and believe he is the last child born to William (and possibly his 2nd wife) Agnes(s) Mitchell, after their arrival in Augusta Co. ——

William Ledgerwood married Agness (Egnes) and had 5 known children: Jane b. 20 Dec 1734 Martha, Eleanor, William , Jr. (abt 1723) James b. 1738-1805

He is listed in the Augusta Parish Vestry Book, page 260, in 1759.

They stated they were from Ireland as they proved their Oaths of Importation on 28 Feb 1739 in Orange Co., VA (a part later became Augusta Co., VA). LSP[1]

Virginia Colonial Militia, American Indian Wars

Buried: North Mountain Burying Ground, Augusta Co., VA

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
