In 1936 he married Amy Alfreda Wheeler and they had three children.

In 1990 their daughter Sonia Lee Edwards was the author of A Time to Build: A Biographical Account of Thomas & Susan Gamble, William & Charlotte Jane Cleaver, John James & Sarah Louisa Wilson, William & Sarah Lee and Their Descendants Who Were Pioneers in the Mercury Bay District and Who Settled at Whitianga between 1868 & 1890.

Death

He died on 19 October 1996, aged 85.
