In his early life Daniel Lee was an attorney for the Commonwealth of Virginia. From 1804 until 1812 he was the Clerk of the ancient District Court. When the district was abolished, he was appointed Clerk of the Chancery Court of the Winchester District. In 1815 he became President of the Farmers Bank in Winchester, Virginia.
