James Lee was born June 9th, 1878 in Windle. He was the eldest child of Henry Lee & Sarah (Garner) Lee. His father was a grocer. When he was small, they lived with his father's mother. His parents were well enough off to be able to have a servant or two living with them at every census. When James grew up, he was a grocer's assistant in the shop. He married Margaret Burgess February 10th 1903 at St Mary Lowe House church (Catholic), and by 1911 they had a household of their own, including an 11-year-old "nurse girl" Elizabeth Lewis who was still in school, who was perhaps in the household to help with the young children. James was still working as a grocer's assistant.
James died January 23rd, 1958 aged 81, and was buried January 25th in St Helens Cemetery.
