Biography

"Tradition relates that John Lee, of Lee Hall, Nottingham,.Eng., the third Earl of Litchfield, had one son Robert. Robert Lee had son William, who on account of religious persecution fled to the colonies and settled at Hempstead, L. I., 1675. He married Mary Marvin, whose mother's maiden name was Mary Brown, and died at Hempstead 1724. Of Elizabeth, daughter of Robert Lee, we have no records.
In 1683 the Governor of New York required the town of Hempstead to take out a new patent, and 2% pence per acre was levied on all lands held by individuals in the town which numbered 160, number of acres 16.563. William Lee was assessed with 40 acres.
William and Mary (Marvin) Lee had Thomas, who was a farmer near Hempstead. He was never married. After the death of his brother Joseph, who married Abigail Price, of Hempstead, and died in middle age, he reared the children and became well to do. John and Robert, sons of William, served in the Colonial wars with the French, and both died of fever soon after their return home at Hempstead. William had also six daughters, of whom no records are found."[1]

"The Lee family is supposed to have been a younger branch of the Lees of Lee-Magna, Kent, England, and at an early period settled at Nottingham, England. That they were a family of distinction is indicated by the possession of a coat of arms, as follows: Az on a fesse between two fillets, or, three leopards' heads gu. Crest, a demi-Moor, ppr vested gu, rimmed around the collar with two bars, or, tied around the waist with a ribbon ar, and gu, holding in his dexter hand a gem ring of the third. The first representative of the family in America was William Lee, who emigrated from Nottingham to this country in 1675. He married Mary Marvin and died in 1724, leaving three sons and- seven daughters. The sons were Thomas and Joseph, of Long Island, and Richard, who entered the French military service in Canada."[2]

There is a William Lee in "The Great Migration" here: [1] where it says his origin is unknown; migrated in 1635 on the Planter as "Will[ia]m Lea" aged 16, enrolled at London as a passenger for New England. First residence unknown. No record for this passenger has been found in New England."

We have no way of knowing if this profile for William Lee who married Mary Marvin and had a son Thomas Lee is the same person who immigrated in 1635.

I am removing PGM category.

Lee-6063 and Lee-6091 appear to represent the same person because: ready to be merged

Lee-6108 and Lee-6242 do not represent the same person because: his mother's name is Ann Atwood Lee, otherwise their the same

Based on the sources I have found, Robert, the father of William is the son of John, not the parents currently shown.

I do not understand anyone adding a profile, and absolutely no details are known. I have two William Lee`s in my family ,and I could add the information on either one.How am I supposed to know that this will be correct?
