Biography

Edward Lee was born on December 5, 1887, in Hull.In 1911 Edward was living at 6 Villa Terrace, Wassand Street, Hull with his parents and 10 siblings He married Priscilla Maunder in 1916 in St John's Church, Hull. They had seven children in 16 years. In 1939 he was working as greengrocer in a shop that he owned in Pulman Street, Hull and living at 87 Somerset Street in that ciry. He died of a sudden heart attack whilst tying his shoelaces ready to to to work. This was on October 28, 1942, in Sheffield, at the age of 54.

Military

He enrolled in the Navy on 31 Aug 1914, He was demobbed on 5 Feb 1919. He was 5 foot 8ins tall with a fair complexion, with a 36 inch chest and Grey eyes. He was mobilised before training had been undergone. He was awarded the British war Medal, Bravery Medal in 31 Aug 1914. He was an engineer in the Royal Naval Reserve Service. He sailed on HMS Phoebe on 1st September this year before completing training. 17 Apr 1916 Sailed on HMS Ganges. HMS Ganges was a training ship and later stone frigate of the Royal Navy. 31 Mar 1918 Sailed on HMS Victory 22 Jan 1919 Sailed on HMS Implacable. HMS Implacable was the only Formidable class battleship to survive the 1st World War. With the rest of her class she formed part of the 5th Battle Squadron at the outbreak of the war, protecting the BEF as it crossed the Channel. 20 Sep 1923 Received RNR medal. The Decoration for Officers of the Royal Naval Reserve, commonly known as the Reserve Decoration (RD), was a medal awarded in the Royal Naval Reserve of the United Kingdom to officers with at least fifteen years of active duty.
