Biography

James Lee, first-born son of Mark Lee and Anne Keys, was born c.1780 in Kentucky. He and his family had migrated to Louisiana by 1804. Whether his marriage to his first cousin, Eleanor Lee, in c. 1801 was before or after the move is unknown.

Children:
  1. Ann Lee (c.1802)[1][2]

Eleanor Lee evidently died after 1804 and before 1809. James remarried Mary Tear, widow of a Mr. Neville, just after Christmas in 1809.[3] [4]

Children of the marriage:
  1. Mary Anne Lee (1810) (m. Michael McCormack) [5]

James Lee died in Louisiana before 1825. [6]

Lee-4297 and Lee-4292 appear to represent the same person because: There is a record for a Jacques Lee in Hebert's "SWLR," but he is a son of an unrelated John Lee from Ireland. Because Jacques is the French version of James, because the father and the dates of birth (c.1780 and 1783) are essentially a match, and because James Lee's brother William was often called Guillaume in Louisiana records, Lee-4292 and Lee-4297 were certainly the same person.

There is no Jacques Lee from this family in Hebert's "SWLR." There is one who is a son of John Lee from Ireland: "LEE, Jacques [James] (Jean [John] - of Ireland & Esther RAYS - from Pennsylvania in Waginton [Washington] County) b. 8 April 1806, bt. 15 Dec. 1808 higher up at Jesse LASSY. Pats: Jean LEES & Marie McCRADEN; Mats: Jacques RAYS - from Ireland & Ester SMITH; Spons: David SMITH & Marie Anne TINKER. Fr. Michel Bernard BARRIERE (SM Ch.: v.6-A, p.44)." Hebert, "SWLR." I think this profile should be merged with (both of) the other James Lee, son of Mark Lee and Nancy Anne Keys.
