Henry was born in 1817, Boston. He is the son of Henry Lee and Mary Jackson. He graduated from Harvard College in 1836. He was in the Banking business and became the manager of the Union Safe Deposit Vaults owned by Lee, Higginson & Company. He married Elizabeth Cabot in 1845, in Boston. They had seven children over 17 years. He died in 1898, in Brookline, at the age of 81, and is buried there.
He was a member of Governor Andrews’ staff during the Civil War. He supported Gov. Andrews’ opposition to General Butler when Butler was raising troops in Massachusetts, independent of state authorities. He wrote “The Militia of the United States: What it has been and what it should be”.
