Note:

Doug Leeper and his two siblings lived with gma and Gpa Phelan. Doug's mom died very young. I think 29. Mildred Lorraine (Phelan) Leeper was a Nurse and was attacked by a patient and took a needle and died of hepatis B or C. Their father Lawrence Edwin worked at McClellan Air Force base in Sacramento. He served in both the Navy and Army(2nd). He fell off a ladder when a safety barrier had been removed and orphaned the 3 kids. I'm not sure how long they stayed with gma and gpa (Phelan), (who had 5 kids their own selves) I want to say only a year or two. I think another relative took them in from, I want to say , Modesto or Fresno (This was Hazel Edith (Leeper) Webster). Doug's sister was Joyce who was married to Ron Vella, and Joan the other one lived in Santa Rosa. I think Joyce went to Modesto High and met Ron there. It was Joyce who introduced Mom and Joe I also have a report card that belongs to his dad that mom had from grandma From Aunt Annie through Stacy Vella, Sunday 10, 2021.

Douglas was mentioned in the obituary of their father Lawrence Leeper on 23 November 1948 in Sacramento, California, United States, just after Doug's 7th birthday, and his father had been out of the country for WWII most of his life.[3][4]

In the 1950 census Douglas (age 8) was the nephew of Barnie R Webster in Northeast Modesto, Stanislaus, California, United States. (his widowed father had passed so he and his sisters are living with his sister's family now).[5]
