Jean Lees was born about 1808 at Stow, Midlothian. On some records she is recorded as Jane.

In 1826 Jean married Alexander Bird at Westruther^[1].

Their younger children were born at Hutton, Berwickshire.

By 1861, Jean was a widow again. She was working as a Postmistress at Paxton. 3 of her children, Barbara, John and James were living with her.
