James Lees married Charlotte Evans on 2 Sep 1819 in Saint Michael, Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire, England.[1]
On the 2d inst. Mr. James Lees, eldest son of Mr. John Lees, near Oldham, to Charlotte, daughter of Thomas Evans, Esq. of Stayley Bank, and niece to the late Rev. Dr. Evans, Archdeacon and Prebendary of Worcester.”[2]
Their children were christened in Oldham, Lancashire, England and include:
“DIED … On the 9th inst. at his residence, 11, Hyde Park Square, London, in the 78th year of his age, JAMES LEES, Esq. of Green Bank, Oldham.”[13]

“LEES James Esq. Effects under £500,000 in the United Kingdom. 18 January. The Will with two Codicils of James Lees late of Green Bank in Oldham in the County of Lancaster Esquire who died 9 December 1871 at 11 Hyde-Park-square in the County of Middlesex domiciled in England was proved at Manchester by Thomas Evans Lees of Woodfield Werneth in Oldham Cotton Spinner the Son one of the Executors.”[14]

These children were also christened with parents James Lees and Charlotte, but their parents are probably James Lees and Charlotte Ashton who married in nearby Prestwich on 26 Feb 1837:[17]
His daughter Sarah Ann is linked to Sarah Anne (Lees) Dumville (1821-1902) via her probate which identified Elliott Lees, baronet as beneficiary. He is son of Thomas Evans Lees.
Another daughter Elizabeth Lees[26], born in 1828, married John Knowles and had son Lees Knowles who became an MP (he is also identified in probate of Sarah Anne Dumville, and also probate for Jane Lees died 2 Nov 1908.
