Isabella Lees was probably born around 1826 in Gorebridge to Robert Lees a stonemason and Margaret Purdie. In 1841 she was probably the Isabella Lees who was a servant for a Mrs Wilson, Innkeeper in Fushie, probably the Fushiebridge Inn, just south of Gorebridge. Isabella Lees married William Pearson in Dalkeith on 1 August 1852 or 30 July 1852 in Borthwick; both records exist and presumably represent double entries into parish records.
At the 1861 census Isabella and her husband, who was described as a gardener and coachman, lived in Tait Street, Dalkeith. This is a small road off the High Street communicating with Back Street, now known as St Andrew Street. They lived there also in 1871, and in this Isabella is described as being born in Gorebridge; they were still there in 1881. After her husband's death in 1885, by 1891 she was a housekeeper in the Baptist Chapel in Dalkeith, living there also her son Robert. In 1901, then aged 75, she lived with her son William and his family in Scott's Close Dalkeith. Isabella Pearson died on 26 June 1903 in Amos’s Close in central Dalkeith. She was said to be 69.
