Research Notes

From Olivia McCabe, 4 Oct 2020: "I have not been able to find any sources for either Burton or Margaret Leeson. Do you know where these profiles came from? At this time I would say evidence suggests that they do no belong to this family and should be disconnected from them."

Update - 5/22/2021 - Searches for Margaret Leeson turned up several things, although there isn't a way to tell which person could be here. There is this record on Name: Margery Leeson, Gender: Female, Baptism Date: 7 Dec 1883, Baptism Place: St Matthew, Redhill, Surrey, England, Father: George John Robert Leeson, Mother: Florence Elizabeth, FHL Film Number: 1278893, England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Operations, Inc., 2014. Original data: England, Births and Christenings, 1538-1975. Salt Lake City, Utah: FamilySearch, 2013. But the birth date is way off.

Another record, which is much more probable, is this one: Name: Wilfred M Leeson, Mother: Elizabeth Leeson, Father: John Leeson, Sibling: Hubert S, Birth: 1847 Finsbury, Surrey, England, Residence: 1861 Chiswick, Middlesex, England. But a search of Google reveals that Codnor is 2 hours from Middlesex.

If you don't check off both parent's names in an Ancestry search, several other Margaret Leesons will appear, but in different shires.

There was a name change for a person in 1849 and 1852 from Leeson to Marshall (can't tell which). See "An index to changes of name under authority of act of Parliament or royal licence and including irregular changes from 1 George III to 64 Victoria, 1760 to 1901," by Author: Phillimore, W. P. W. (William Phillimore Watts), 1853-1913; Fry, Edward Alexander, Pages 389, p. 218.[1] Fetterly-28 00:30, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
