Biography

Eleanor the wife of Arnold Savage is thought to be the daughter of Ralph St Leger and his wife Joan. Joan's will mentions a daughter named Eleanor and she assigned Sir Arnold Savage as one of her two executors.[1] That appears to be the only proof, and so her parents should be considered uncertain.

Eleanor's own will was dated 8 October 1374.[2][3] She was described as the widow of Sir Arnold Savage, Knt and she made bequests to:

  • my son Arnold
  • Eleanor
  • Margaret Lottwicke
  • Roger Norwood, that married my daughter

She requested burial in the chancel of the priory church at Wallingford "where my Lord's [i.e. her husband's] body lieth".

Should the parents be marked as uncertain?

Hi Maryann, would you please change her LNAB to St Leger in keeping with the EuroAristo naming standards? ("St" is a prefix which stays with the surname; that is, "St John" goes in the LNAB field, and St is not dropped nor separated out into the prefix field. Do not put a full stop (period) after the St and do not spell out the word Saint.)

Ditto with the other St Leger profiles that you manage. Thanks.
