Biography

George married Mary Elizabeth Vienot. They were married at the St. John Anglican Church, in Lunenburg, on 18 April 1820.[1]

He died in 1857[2] or 23 March 1867.[3]

Research Notes

George appears to have been born in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia (the obit for his son Benjamin says that both George and Mary were born in England. This obit also says that George's middle name was Michel not Michael, which could be a typo. OneWorldTree and FamilySearch have his birthplace as Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. FamilySearch also has a christening date of 12 Apr 1796 which presumably came from primary sources).

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with George by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with George:

Emeline Legge New Ross Lunenburg Census 1881  ?[14]

This is Simon's wife, Emeline Hiltz. They married in 1878.

My connection to George Legge was supported by DNA today! An Ancestry.com member who took the Special:DNATests&u32&id=2 AncestryDNA autosomal test traces a connection to George through his son John. Cool!
